UPDATE @ 8AM PT – Sunday 12/5 – Opus61 has elected to play in the playoff, so “clunkerdog” will not make the cut (Sorry!). If you’re in the final 16, then you should get an email notification from Challonge.com (via wordswithfriendstournaments.com) within the next day or so.

UPDATE @ 4PM PT – Fixed the display issue that caused some players in single digit % to rank higher.

Congratulations, Opus61! You were the most successful player in our November Battle for America (daily challenge), going undefeated for 20 rounds. The feat was unmatched by any other player.

But recognition is due many other players, who performed well in a field of over 1,000 competitors during the month. Below I’ve listed the 18 top players for November here, 16 of whom will have a playoff match. (Opus61 has elected to take a rest, and, sadly, we were informed by simpsol that WWF Lover passed away last month.)

Top 18 (minus 2): Marcus Robinson at wordswithfriendstournaments.com is facilitating this playoff bracketing, and you will receive an email from him shortly. We will report the results right here!

Details here:

I’m leaving the November Daily Challenge (Battle for America, etc.) open until midnight Pacific Time. You can edit rounds 28, 29, and 30 until then.

Tomorrow (Friday) I will tabulate results and announce an overall winner as determined by the stated rules. I will also identify our top 16 performers as determined by win % and margin of victory, and announce how we’ll proceed with playoffs. I may do a bracket approach to make it more interesting (Marcus Robinson, care to set up a Challonge for this?)

Have a great day, everyone!

Well done, rfar45! You vanquished the field and can now enjoy the honor of being called the best of the best.

Hogpower, you stunned many other top players, and now the secret is out. You’re the TOP HOG!

Thanks to all our players for a great session!

Just a reminder — there will be no December monthly tournament.

In a few hours, Marcus Robinson kicks off his December tournament (wordswithfriendstournaments.com), but I’m not sure whether it’s still possible to get in if you were not registered there previously.

What about the Daily Challenge?

A December Daily Challenge will be initiated shortly.

What about conclusion of November Daily Challenge? We’ll wait until Friday night for the Round 30 results to be reported in the November Daily Challenge. At that point, I’ll crown the winner (see rules) and announce the final 16 for a friendly follow-up playoff.

Two players standing after 28 days and 1,400 competitors. If they played 2.5 matches per round, that would be 70 games played over an 11-round winning streak. If each game took 2 hours, that would be 140 hours. Consider this like the final 2 miles of a marathon. Two elites, running their hearts out in a contest in which there can be only one champion.

rfar45 is a known commodity. Anyone could easily have placed him in the final on the strength of past performance. Hogpower is a newer name who dispatched some big players in this tourney, including the last round win over WWF Lover (whom I thought would be the champ this month).

Clearly, both players are world class and are capable of winning. I have no favorite here. I just hope both players enjoy the thrill of the competition and sense the pride of being at the top of the heap!

Maria786 vs rfar45

Hogpower vs WWF Lover

It’ll be interesting to see if Hogpower can pull this off! A hog swimming with the sharks out here!

Congratulations to our Round 8 winners: rfar45, WWF Lover, Maaria786, and Hogpower! How does it feel to be the top 0.28%?

PLEASE take time away from the tournament and enjoy your family and friends over the holiday. You really do deserve a break. We’ll resume the monthly tournament with Round 9 on Friday night at 8PM. Log in after that time, and draw your next opponent.

I’m going to let the Daily Tournament keep running, because of people who are trying to get to the requisite 20 games to make the top 16 cut. However, if you are going to be busy over the holiday, be sure to click “withdraw” after recording your latest score. This ensures that you will not be assigned an opponent when the next round cycles. You can return at any time and click “rejoin” to pick up where you left off.

Things will be fairly quiet on the blog and with email until Friday. Have a happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

As I said at the beginning of Round 7, “Titans will fall.” 2tuff and simpsol took it to 3rd game, no doubt giving it their all. But it wasn’t meant to be.

Two stars are shining brighter than before: Hogpower and CurtisGary. You’ve both done what many a competitor has failed to do, which is edge out an elite player in late rounds. But don’t catch your breath now. It only gets more challenging from here!

Here they are, ladies and gentlemen. Your FINAL EIGHT!!

• Tiler8
• rfar45
• WWF Lover
• Maaria786
• Blackjh
• CurtisGary
• thiefybk
• Hogpower

Can’t wait to see the matchups!
