NOV Battle for America Winner – Opus61

Written by bloggermark

UPDATE @ 8AM PT – Sunday 12/5 – Opus61 has elected to play in the playoff, so “clunkerdog” will not make the cut (Sorry!). If you’re in the final 16, then you should get an email notification from Challonge.com (via wordswithfriendstournaments.com) within the next day or so.

UPDATE @ 4PM PT – Fixed the display issue that caused some players in single digit % to rank higher.

Congratulations, Opus61! You were the most successful player in our November Battle for America (daily challenge), going undefeated for 20 rounds. The feat was unmatched by any other player.

But recognition is due many other players, who performed well in a field of over 1,000 competitors during the month. Below I’ve listed the 18 top players for November here, 16 of whom will have a playoff match. (Opus61 has elected to take a rest, and, sadly, we were informed by simpsol that WWF Lover passed away last month.)

Top 18 (minus 2): Marcus Robinson at wordswithfriendstournaments.com is facilitating this playoff bracketing, and you will receive an email from him shortly. We will report the results right here!

I just want to apologize for hijacking this thread – Opus61 certainly deserves to be the focus of attention here after such an awesome win record. I am sorry Opus. Congrats on winning! I am sure you earned it!

Ashlee, just wanted to tell you that it was an honor to have played against your Dad who was such a skilled scrabble player as well as an incredibly nice person. He will be missed. (Annie Cheng – un: @peace and wordbudy)

Deeply saddened by the news of the loss of WWF Lover to both his family and friends and this community. He was a fantastic player and ALWAYS a bona fide gentleman during matches…even whilst doling out humbling defeats time and time again. He always responded (to my pleading to stop kicking my butt so bad) that he had a reputation to uphold. He definitely did just that…upheld it as one of the best there was while always, as mentioned, maintaining a high level of sportsmanship and low level of hubris. RIP über-foe!!

Hate to ask here but…I don’t see the top 18 list? Where is it?

I was struggling with the stack ordering with decimal values. Finally got it right (I think). Have to admit, I’m not the PHP/MySQL guru I’ve led you all to believe!

I’ve been waiting for Mark to post something

On behalf of my father, WWF Lover, thank you for taking him into your community and bringing him such joy. He was the bright light to every day of my life. And will always have my love. My moniker “funny_girl” is what he called me. We laughed more than we did anything.
